DoubleTree By Hilton Johor Review – Your Best JB Hotel Yet?
We’re spending the weekend across the causeway, to celebrate the missus’ birthday. From a previous experience, we decided to give this a try. Read this DoubleTree By Hilton Johor Review to get a feel of what it’s like.
This DoubleTree By Hilton Johor review is written during the week of the Hari Raya Puasa holiday happening in Singapore.
Top 3 Reasons Why You Should Spend A Night Here
- Location
- Price
- Service
Conveniently Walkable From City Square
Here’s how to enjoy spending across the causeway, even if you don’t own a car.
In fact, our waiting time was much shorter by taking the AC7, passing by the vehicles that were stuck in their lanes. That’s partly because of the Puasa holiday period, and possibly because of social car sharing services that offer free trials recently.
Within 10 minutes of walking out from the J-CO donuts glass doors of City Square mall, we find ourselves crossing the make-shift road pieces of metal that is Jalan Wong Ah Fook.
Seems the roadworks have made it pedestrian unfriendly at the moment.
Problem solved by walking on a street further behind, after climbing a flight of stairs.
You’ll pass by a shop selling batteries and hair dressers, and a roundabout.
After that, you will see the DoubleTree By Hilton signboard.
All that in the current weather, and we didn’t even sweat much from the walking.
Be sure to catch the room walkabout at the end of this post!
Affordable Luxury Even Broke Singaporeans Can Consider
For an investment of MYR 359.33, the feel of this place can surprisingly rival an experience at the Quincy.
While it doesn’t come with free flow food or free drinks, I can gladly pass on those.
The Wifi only supports 3 devices, but anyone with personal hotspot gadgets can bypass that limitation. You can bring a LAN cable and plug in a MacBook to share the ethernet connection through Wifi.
3 devices? Can’t satisfy power users.
Quality Of Service Makes You Feel Valued
The first time we checked into a DoubleTree Hotel in the UK, I was pleasantly surprised by the cookie that we got.
I’m glad to say, that same feeling came back when we walked in through the glass doors of the DoubleTree by Hilton in Johor.
Unless my eyes played tricks on me, the concierge staff that tended to us did not have a name tag.
Nonetheless, she was very professional in explaining the check-in procedures to us.
MYR 150 deposit charged to the card without a hiccup.
She went on to verify that we are getting a king bed, non-smoking as I requested.
Not bad, as I thought to myself.
All the things that matter to guests, she covered before we asked.
In fact, I was ready to open my mouth as she seems to be done.
I wanted to know about the swimming pool and gym operating hours.
“Lastly Mr Wong, the swimming pool is located on the 13th floor. It’s open from 6am to 8pm. The gym is open 24 hours, and you’ll need your access card.”
With the last question in my mind answered, I uttered the only thing left to say, and that is to thank her.
Gotta love when things flow well.
We walk to the lift, our chocolate chip cookies giving off a pleasant aroma from within the paper wrapping and the temperature still warm as if it’s fresh out from the oven.
Another instance of good service would be our dinner.
Room service came within 20 minutes, like he promised over the phone.
As we got lazy after checking in, we didn’t bother to explore the nearby places downstairs.
Our server asked to enter the room before setting the pizza down nicely.
We then enjoyed our dinner over Fox Premium’s airing of The Maze Runner.

Bonus: Suggestion For Lunch After Checking Out
We didn’t get breakfast at the hotel, so we had to eat something after checking out.
Within 10 minutes of walking from DoubleTree by Hilton, you will discover a street full of cafes you can explore at your leisure.
This place is called Jalan Dhoby.
If you are done with walking around the shopping malls, you could spend an afternoon in one of these cafes instead of the usual Hui Lau Shan or Pappa Rich. Spending MYR 8 on a cappuccino may just be the incentive you’ll need to give these cafes a try.
It’s along the road that brings you from City Square Mall to DoubleTree By Hilton. Just that you walk the opposite direction away from DoubleTree to get to Jalan Dhoby.
All without renting a car!
